The archaeological excavations on the slopes indicate clearly indicate the existence of a fortified castle, which was, in terms of its position of strategic importance. After the Roman conquests, the fortress became a Castrum Castrum Veneris and bears the name, probably in connection with the temple of a pagan goddess was dedicated.
