Description
Farmhouse by Lauwers River with Rowing Boat
On the river Lauwers, near the 'Green Coastal Route,' lies the Lauwerspleats, a historic head-neck-torso farmhouse with a thatched barn built in 1651 by monks of the nearby Girkesklooster. The farmhouse sits on its own mound, with limited accessibility for disabled guests. Guests can swim in the river year-round and use a rowing boat with motor for trips on the Lauwersmeer. Cycling enthusiasts have access to menās and womenās touring bikes, and a special 'Danske Post' transport bike for picnics.
The Lauwers area, known as the 'Camargue of the North,' features lakes, creeks, beaches, and forests, offering diverse flora and fauna. Birdwatchers will enjoy the spring and autumn migrations. Nearby ports include Lauwersoog, Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, Oostmahorn, and Zoutkamp, while Dokkum is just 15 km away. Leeuwarden and Groningen are about 30 km from the house, both offering culture, history, and shopping. Day trips to Schiermonnikoog are possible from Lauwersoog.
Bed linen is provided, and in winter the horses are stabled. This peaceful location is ideal for relaxing outdoors and enjoying the serene landscape.
