"Las Canteras Beach is a long stretch of sand, occupying some 3,800 meters of coastline, which extends along the bay.
Las Canteras is one of the best urban beaches in the country and the world, because it is a beach where life is good almost all year round. It is the place in the capital where you can relax, where time stands still and where you can play sports every day of the week, in a swimsuit, bikini, goggles and snorkel, paddle (beach rackets) or surfboard.
It is also a large marine life reserve. Its seabed is home to a thousand types of fish. On land, it is a refuge for walkers, fishermen and surfers. And it has a peculiarity. This peculiarity is what the locals call "La Barra", a long rock formation that extends not far from the sand and protects a large part of the beach from the tides, transforming it into a natural saltwater pool when the tide is low. A curious line of stones makes the bay the best place on this side of the globe for swimming, since the salty sea facilitates floating and, with swimming goggles, gives the impression of being inside a large aquarium.
And if you want to walk, we recommend the long promenade that winds along the sand, passing cafes and ice cream parlors. At the beginning of the promenade, you will find the terraces of La Puntilla and the fresh fish restaurants. At the other end of the beach, the surf atmosphere around the Alfredo Kraus auditorium, with more terraces and cafes facing the sea.
Las Canteras is Playa Cambiante. It will never be the same place as the day before. It will be completely different. And that is another of its peculiarities. It always remains in
the same place, but it's always different.
