Highly recommended is National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug, where rolling moors and dense forests combine to form one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the Netherlands. Here you can really hear the silence. In summer, the routes are ideal for an active day outdoors, while in winter you can get some fresh air with a thick coat and warm scarf and then warm yourself by the outdoor fireplace of your own veranda.
Families will find plenty of entertainment nearby, such as the cosy play farm Dondertman or Avonturenpark Hellendoorn. Culture lovers will be surprised by the historic centre of Deventer, with its cosy shopping streets, bookshops and coffee shops. Holten itself is also charming, with a village character and fine restaurants.
