Welcome, empathetic manager, hospitality, etc. were heartwarming.
The ferry to Kaageiland is already a party! From Monday there and Friday again, it felt like a few weeks vacation. We enjoyed it, what a beauty there!
On arrival we had to look for someone who could give us a key. The specified key address, no. 13, was incorrect. The relevant occupant knew nothing about it. The key must be collected at the Reflection Center, no. 13a. If nobody is present there, in our case, the resident of the Rectory can let you in. That is how it happened, and this pastor gave extensive text and explanation about the house and all the details. The accommodation was spacious, simple, but comfortable. The beds in the sleeping loft were too low for us. We then used the remaining mattresses to raise the beds. That slept well. We especially enjoyed the canopy and the beautiful view over the Kaagpolder. Peace and space are the magic words. Silence slightly less, because you are close to the Kaagbaan of Schiphol. To our surprise, we got used to it very quickly, and slept well. Because the Reflection Center and the accommodation are on the same site, it regularly happened (6x in 4 days) that suddenly unknown people were standing on our terrace talking or telephoning while we were present. Even 1x at 1.30 a.m., we had to send 2 boys away from the terrace, who were drinking and smoking, and whose conversation we woke up. We were just there in order not to be disturbed and to really have rest, the "boundary" between the two buildings is very vague. Administrators indicated that they would take action in this regard. is a real Dutch picture, green meadows, straight ditches, cows, many different birds, geese and swans, beautiful cloudy skies and of course a mill. You can walk through the vast polder landscape (Boot path; boots in all shapes and sizes available) Conclusion: despite some negatives definitely recommended, and what concerns us for repetition
Ein absoluter Geheimtipp!
We had mixed experiences in the house. Using the ferry to reach the island of Kaag is really a nice experience and worked well. The house is very spacious with a lot of room. The WiFi worked perfectly, even on parts of the terrace. The house, the dishes, the kitchen were very clean and in good order. A lot of parking spaces are available directly at the house. On the more negative side: on arrival, we did not met or reach a person to hand over the house + key. We were not informed that the key was available in a key save next to the entrance. Luckily a lady from the neighborhood could help us. We think it should be mentioned in the description, that depending on the direction of the wind, the house is located in the direct entry lane of Schiphol Airport, it´s really noise and annoying. Also the nearby dockyard was quite noisy from time to time. The nice view across the canal and the polder behind the house, which is visible on the pictures, was unfortunately blocked by 2 meters high water reed, thus the view was more against a green wall. Sun loungers were not there. The equipment in the kitchen like glasses, plates, etc. was not sufficient for a house, which is rented to 6 people. The bathroom only offers a very tiny washbasin and no power socket for hairdryer or shaver. But, after we got a bit used to these deficiencies, we really enjoyed our holiday on Kaag and in the house.
The house is decorated as if you were walking through a thrift store. The sleeping loft is reminiscent of a youth hostel. Kitchen towels were new, so they couldn't absorb water: no drying, just wiping. No loops on those cloths, no hooks to hang them on. no towel or soap in the toilet. There was not enough toilet paper and a small amount of washing up liquid. Just bought it yourself. An unhappy and messy kitchen. In short: a fantastic space that has not been properly furnished and renovated, especially as far as the sanitary facilities and the kitchen are concerned, that's what it was. Outside terrace: lovely. Nice fireplace. Ideal for families with children, they can do little harm and have a great play area. Then the bits and pieces of toys in the side cupboards in the attic will have to be completed/restored, because that too was one big mess. A better sorting of books is desirable: that is no longer so difficult these days. A TV that works incomprehensibly: please add an explanation for use in the brochure.
