Description of the place : Porretta Terme is a characteristic municipality bordered by the Reno river at its confluence with the Rio Maggiore and surrounded by the green hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. In fact, the thermal baths have been appreciated since ancient times by the Etruscans and Romans, Machiavelli stayed in Porretta at the time of the Mandragola, and nobles, intellectuals, artists and guests from all the Italian states at the end of the 19th century used to meet in Porretta. There is also a direct source testifying to the existence of thermal springs at least since Roman times: the famous mask depicting the face of a lion, today the symbol of the Terme di Porretta.
