The village of Kötschach-Mauthen has traditionally been a spa town and is known for its beautiful surroundings and healing air, nestled within breathtaking mountain formations. Due to its location on the southern side of the Alps, the region experiences snowy, cold but sunny winters and warm, Italian summers. You can enjoy the peace and quiet in the pristine nature with its breathtaking mountain landscapes. The Kötschach-Mauthen-Vorhegg ski area is a small but excellent ski resort, part of the Nassfeld-Pressegger See tourist region, and offers a good selection of restaurants and shops, various hiking and cycling tours, the Hike World with 25 themed trails, and a large swimming pool (Aquarena water and wellness oasis). Other ski areas in the region include the Nassfeld ski area with 110 kilometers of slopes, the Zettersfeld ski area at the foot of the Schleinitz in the Lienzer Dolomites in East Tyrol with 21 kilometers of slopes, or the family ski area Golzentipp in Obertilliach in the eastern Tyrolean Hochpustertal with 12 kilometers of slopes. There are many activities such as hiking, walking, and mountain biking. In the summer, the Waldbad Mauthen natural pool or the Pressegger See east of Hermagor offer plenty of swimming fun! There are many sporting activities in the region, both in summer and winter. You can follow various beautiful hiking and Nordic walking routes from Kötschach-Mauthen. You can go canoeing and rafting on the Gail, and there are many mountain bike and cycling routes. In the vicinity, there are lakes, such as the Presseggersee, with lovely lidos where you can swim, sunbathe, and enjoy the fantastic view over the lake. You can play golf at Gailtail Golf, which opened in 2009. You can go ice skating on the Weissensee and the Presseggersee.
